Our landscape is fragmented due to historical land clearing and weed invasion. Weneed to link remnant vegetation in our National Park estates across the Tweed.Fillingthe Biodiversity Gaps-Connecting the Tweed Coast to the Border RangesisTweedLandcare’s highly successful signature project that has been working withlandholdersand other partners since 2011 to reconnect and restore the remnant bushland tofunctioning forest by removing weeds on wildlife corridors connected to National Parksand provide training for ongoing management.

It is now in its 10th year (Filling the Gaps Stage 9),which aims to improve and protecthigh conservation value vegetation to connect, expand and maintain habitat for theTweed’s diverse flora and fauna, including threatened species. Wehave worked with 40landholders and restored well over 250 hectares of degraded forest.Landholder bushregeneration training and their subsequent in-kind contributions have been part of theproject as are Aboriginal Cultural site assessments carried out by Tweed-Byron LocalAboriginal Land Council.Properties are selected based on location within mapped corridors, their conservationvalues, links to National Parks estate and must have engaged and supportivelandholders.
